July Week 3: Black is Beautiful beer sells out, new cancer test detects before symptoms

The Philadelphia Homebrew Club have developed a beer in collaboration with Black is Beautiful to raise awareness for the injustices enduring by people of colour everyday. And it's already sold out. The breweries who take part in the initiative donate 100% of the beer's proceeds to local foundations that support police brutality reform and legal defences for those who have been wronged.

Researchers in China have developed a test that identifies cancers up to four years before signs appear. The test, called PanSeer, is non-invasive and detects cancer in 95% of individuals who have no symptoms but later receive a diagnosis.

The team wrote in the journal of Nature Communications: “We demonstrated that five types of cancer can be detected through a DNA methylation-based blood test up to four years before conventional diagnosis."

They said the test picks up on cancerous growths that have not yet caused symptoms or been spotted by other methods, rather than predicting cancer.

The smiley face, which is part of their brand new launch in collaboration with SmileyWorld, was projected not only to promote their launch but bring a little bit of happiness to those who saw it.

Ciaté Founder and CEO Charlotte Knight said: “Particularly at times like this it’s important to see the positives in everyday moments by sharing smiles.”
